‘Dining Out’ awards banquet recognizes ‘best of the best’

Wylie High School’s Air Force Junior ROTC unit helds its annual “Dining Out” awards banquet last week.

The event recognizes the unit’s elite, according to Col. Wayne Wilbanks. “The awards ceremony culminates our seventh year of dedication by the TX 200010 cadets awards winners who ... have worked hard and sacrificed much. They are the best of the best.”

The awards are bestowed under policies and guidelines from the Air Force ROTC program.

Receiving national honors were:

Army Recruiters Command JROTC Award – Dalton Haase;
Retired Enlisted Association Award – Kahtya Davis;

Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Awards – Breanna Jaso

Tuskegee Airmann Incorporation Award – Marlee Hyden and Jeff Herrera;

Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA) Award – Anthony Childress;

Military Order of the Purple Heart Award – Monica Bueno

Scottish Rite, Southern Jurisdiction Award – Britney Vincze

Sons of the American Revolution Award – Heather Wilhelm

National Sojourners Award – Tuyet Trinh

Veterans of Foreign Wars Award – William Woods

The Military Officers Association of America Award – Carla Bueno

The Military Order of the World Wars Award – Britney Thompson

Reserve Officers Association Award – Ashley Pepin

American Veterans Award – Michael Herod

Daughters of the American Revolution Award – Chris Cutliff

American Legion General Military Excellence Award – Adam Barber and Kaitlyn Hussey

American Legion Scholastic Award – Sean Smith and Samantha Milam

Daedalian Award – Nicolas Wright

Air Force Association Award – Amber Adam

Special awards bestowed were:

Warrior Award – Top Female Cadet Amanda Bush and Top Male Cadet Andy Lowry

Marines Athletic Excellece Award – Aimee Gonzales

Marines Scholastic Achievement Award – John McCarty

Air Force ROTC sponsored awards were presented to students as well.

An E2C Ribbon is awarded by participation in a locally developed physical fitness program. Cadets who distinguished themselves by achieving an overall rating of 80 to 89 percent were Amber Adam, Patrick Addington, Joe Dodd, Aimee Gonzales, Jeff Herrera, Evan Hodges, Laura Jackson, Breanna Jaso, Savion Kendall, LaToya Kirven, Elijah Martinez, James McKenna, Josh Myers, Kovin Outha-Aphay, Devante Simpson, Daniel Taylor, Britney Thompson and Nicolas Wright.

Cadets who achieved an overall rating of 90 to 99 percent were Ashley Herod, Austin Holloway, Marlee Hyden and Lauren Wise.

Outstanding Flight Ribbons are awarded each semester to members of the outstanding flight. Winner for the Spring Semester is Alpha Flight under the command of Cadet 2nd Lt. Heather Wilhelm at Wylie High School and the winner at Wylie East High School is Hotel Flight under the command of Breanna Jaso.

Achievement Ribbon recipients were Britney Thompson, Toire Steward, Dalton Haase, Jeff Herrera, Heather Wilhelm, Amber Adam, Michael Herod, Tyler Brown, Russell Evans, Deric Adam, Angel Hook and Jeff Herod;

Leadership Ribbon awardees were Monica Bueno, Sofia Hernandez, Adam Roemer, Carla Bueno, Ashley Violett, Tuyet Trinh, Toire Steward, Britney Vincze, Breanna Jaso, Ashley Herod and Samantha Milam.

Outstanding ribbons went to: Fourth Year – Ashley Pepin; Third Year – Amber Adam; Second Year – Jacob Tassan; and First Year – Marlee Hyden.

Amber Adam earned the Distinguished AFJROTC Cadet Award. She will serve as the Cadet Corps Wing Commander for the first semester of 2008-’09 school year.

Winners of the Wylie Air Force Junior ROTC TX-200010 Scholarships were Adam Barber ($2,500), Savion Kendall ($2,500), Chris Cutliff ($1,500) and Liz Corsey ($500).
