Food Sales Association awards scholarships

Two Wylie students are among the 30 North Texas high schoolers receiving a $2,000 Food Sales Association Scholarship.

Riley Davis IV and Carmen Vanderhoof, both Albertson’s employees, each earned the recognition. Riley and Carmen are both seniors at Wylie High School.

Riley is the son of Riley III and Lisa Davis. Carmen is the daughter of Michael and Carmen Vanderhoof.

The awards were announced during the 2008-’09 FSA Scholarship Awards Luncheon at the Las Colinas Country Club in Irving. This luncheon marked the 11th year of awarding scholarships to area high school seniors working in the food retail industry.

“We are extremely proud of these outstanding students.

Their educational, community and professional accomplishments make them deserving of this recognition, and we look forward to their returning to our industry as professionals and future leaders,” said Doug Renfro, president of the Food Sales Association.

The $2,000 college scholarships are awarded annually to students working in area food retail stores while attending high school. Each student is considered based upon his or her interest in a career in the food retail industry, scholastic achievements in school, honors and activities.

Scholarship applicants must also submit a personal essay.

Recipients must attend a Texas college and carry a minimum of nine credit hours.
