Equine desensitizing clinic offered Saturday, May 10

The Collin County Extension Horse Committee will be hosting an equine desensitizing clinic from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Hwy. 500 Arena near the Valdosta Community located between McKinney and Blue Ridge.

The clinic will be presented by John Wiltsie and John Jones of the McKinney Mounted Police Department.

Cost is $20 per participant with a horse or $5 per spectator. Class size for horses is limited to 30.

Remembering topic of free bereavement luncheon

Matt Wadsworth, a hospice social worker with the Visiting Nurse Association, will speak on “Remembering Well” at the May 19 bereavement luncheon hosted by the Visiting Nurse Association of Collin County.

The luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Grand Texan Seniors Community, 2491 Country View Ln. in McKinney. The luncheon is free, but reservations are requested and can be made by calling VNA of Collin County at 214-733-5500.

Disney’s ‘High School Musical’ coming to Dallas in July

The annual Audie Murphy Day celebration will be held June 21 in the downtown Farmersville area.

The celebration honors Audie Leon Murphy, the most decorated American soldier of World War II, and local men and women who have served or are serving in the nation’s armed forces, organizers said.

Sponsors, volunteers needed for WildRide! in May

The Richardson Regional Medical Center Foundation is seeking sponsors and volunteers for the fifth annual WildRide! Against Cancer.

About 1,500 cyclists are expected to participate in the May 17 bike rally, benefiting the Lance Armstrong Shaped Beam Surgery program at Richardson Regional Cancer Center.

Cyclists choose from 16, 40 or 64 miles that start in Richardson and pass through Plano, Murphy, Wylie and Garland, across the dam at Lake Lavon and through Nevada and Josephine.

Registration is $35.

Tack, rummage sale to benefit trail preservation

The Trinity Trail Equestrian and Hiking Trail will host a Tack and Rummage Sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 17 at the Masonic Lodge parking lot at the corner of Ballard Avenue and Paul Wilson Road.

All monies received will be used to maintain the Trinity Trail. The preservation association maintains the trail which runs from East Fork Park in Wylie to Highland Park in Lucas. Plans are underway to extend the trail northward another 10 miles to the border of Fairview and McKinney.

Pirate Cove playground work day Saturday

Volunteers are needed Saturday, May 10, and 17 to perform maintenance at the Pirate Cove Playground at Founders Park.

Work will be from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Volunteers are invited to come and work as a long as they can, work day coordinator Anne Hiney said.

The volunteers will be applying sealer, so no tools are needed, Hiney said, just “wear gloves if you have them and clothing that you don’t mind getting sealer on.”

Blood drive May 13 at Municipal Complex

The city of Wylie’s annual blood drive with Carter BloodCare will be from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 13 in the city hall parking lot, 2000 N. Hwy. 78.

Those wishing to donate can stop by on May 13 or call 972-442-8100 ext. 8147 to make an appointment.

According to information from the blood center, all potential donors must be at least 17 years of age, must bring a valid photo ID, must weigh at least 110 pounds and must be feeling well and healthy on the day of donating.

The Avon Store in downtown Wylie will host Bingo Night from 5 to 7:30 p.m. May 31 to benefit the Breast Cancer 3-Day Race for the Cure.
