Final Score: Lady Pirates finish half of district play with
The Lady Pirates put up significant resistance, but came up short against Plano in three games on Oct. 7.
It was a similar result Friday against Plano East, when Wylie was again shot down in three games.
The team’s second pass through the district competition began Tuesday at Plano West. Details were not available at press time.
Wylie faces Allen on Friday and McKinney Boyd on Oct. 21. Both are home matches.
At the midway point in district play, Plano West remains undefeated at 5-0. Plano East, Plano and Allen are each 3-2. McKinney Boyd is 1-4. Wylie is 0-5.
“The girls are still working hard. We have an unbelievable group of girls with their attitudes and work ethic. We still think we might be able to surprise somebody in this second half of district,” said head coach Deanna Toler.
The Lady Pirates showed consistent hustle throughout the Plano match but could not muster a victory. They lost 21-25, 19-25 and 19-25. Jessi Poole recorded 15 digs, and Erica Amos tallied nine digs in the loss. Marindia Turner tagged the Lady Wildcats with eight kills.
The never-say-die attitude was evident in the Plano East contest. Wylie fell 21-25, 16-25, and 25-27 and played hard up to the last point.
The Wylie defense combined for 56 digs behind Poole with 20. They also divided 35 kills among seven hitters. Turner led with 11 kills.
Toler said some adjustments were made to the lineup prior to the contest and that led to a nervous start. After giving up a few points to begin game one, the players settled down.
Junior varsity report
The JV squad lost to Plano 12-25 and 13-25. Lauren Tarver led the team with four digs, and Brianna Hufe led all hitters with three kills. Kylie Garza was outstanding at setter and showed tremendous hustle throughout the contest.
The team fell 15-25 and 19-25 against Plano East. Alyssa Zak and Tierrika Noble were solid at the net and picked up a pair of big blocks. Garza served four straight points to start game two. Tarver dug up six hard balls and helped maintain several long rallies. Tambrisha Gilstrap and Brianna Knoblock recorded three digs each.
Freshman
The Raiders Maroon fell in two games to Clark, 17-25, 15-25. Carey Strong was an offensive standout. She had seven attacks, four for kills and made no errors at the net.
Jocelyn Finch pressured the middle of the net with four stuff blocks.
The Maroon followed with a loss to Jasper in three games. They lost game one 16-25, rebounded for a 25-21 victory in game two, but fell 15-25 in game three.
They recorded 17 kills and were led by Jasmine and Jocelyn Finch.
Christina Nesmith was dominating at blocker. Lanie Brown, stepping into the libero position, held up a defense that recorded 23 digs.
The White squad lost to Jasper. They dropped game one 16-25, took game two 25-20, but fell in game three 10-25.
