Final Score: Lady Pirates finish half of district play with

The Lady Pirates put up significant resistance, but came up short against Plano in three games on Oct. 7.

It was a similar result Friday against Plano East, when Wylie was again shot down in three games.

The team’s second pass through the district competition began Tuesday at Plano West. Details were not available at press time.

Wylie faces Allen on Friday and McKinney Boyd on Oct. 21. Both are home matches.

At the midway point in district play, Plano West remains undefeated at 5-0. Plano East, Plano and Allen are each 3-2. McKinney Boyd is 1-4. Wylie is 0-5.

“The girls are still working hard. We have an unbelievable group of girls with their attitudes and work ethic. We still think we might be able to surprise somebody in this second half of district,” said head coach Deanna Toler.

The Lady Pirates showed consistent hustle throughout the Plano match but could not muster a victory. They lost 21-25, 19-25 and 19-25. Jessi Poole recorded 15 digs, and Erica Amos tallied nine digs in the loss. Marindia Turner tagged the Lady Wildcats with eight kills.

The never-say-die attitude was evident in the Plano East contest. Wylie fell 21-25, 16-25, and 25-27 and played hard up to the last point.

The Wylie defense combined for 56 digs behind Poole with 20. They also divided 35 kills among seven hitters. Turner led with 11 kills.

Toler said some adjustments were made to the lineup prior to the contest and that led to a nervous start. After giving up a few points to begin game one, the players settled down.
