When the Lady Pirates and Lady Raiders battle this Friday at Wylie East, most of the attention will be on the ball and where the person possessing it is headed.
However, those in attendance should, when they get the chance, play attention to those who rarely touch the sphere, but when they do, it’s often at a potentially game-changing moment.
They are the goalkeepers, the last line of defense.
This season, each Wylie team has some solid folks guarding the net, and in the case of Wylie East, they have two.
For the Lady Pirates, the goal is being protected by sophomore Jennifer Hiddink, who shared duties last season with Lauren Story, but now, in 2013, mans her position for the full 80 minutes.
Just a few miles down the road at East, Aliyah Revely and Brooke-Lynn Scroggins share the role, with one handling duties in the first half, and the other in the final 40 minutes.
