The Lady Raider and Lady Pirates girls’ soccer teams got in plenty of work during their non-district schedules.
Now, it’s time to apply what they learned against District 21-4A competition.
This past week, Wylie East did just that with a 1-0 win Feb. 19 over Wylie at Wylie Stadium and then clubbing Royse City 6-0 on Friday.
They looked to continue their success this past Tuesday at Quinlan Ford and then Friday at home against Lovejoy. After that, they’ll have a bye before starting the 21-4A’s second half against Wylie on Friday, March 8, at Wylie East.
Wylie, which began district play Feb. 16 with a 2-1 loss to Lovejoy, has a bye Friday and resumed action Tuesday at Royse City and will host Quinlan Ford on Friday. After that, they’ll host Lovejoy on Tuesday, March 5, at Wylie Stadium.
Erica Hiddink score the Lady Pirates’ goal in the Lovejoy loss, while East sophomore Asia Revely found a goal late in the first half against the Lady Pirates off an assist from Senior Leslie Snider.
The girls’ district has five teams, with four of then assured of making the playoffs. The key will be getting the highest seed possible.
“We were really hoping to get a win in one of our first two games,” said Lady Pirate head coach Chris Bezner. “That didn’t happen.”
The goal now, he said, will be to beat Royse City and Quinlan Ford and finish 2-2 after the first half of district competition.
“In the second round of district, maybe we can get a win against one of those (teams) that got us the first time,” Bezner said.

After facing the Raiders, Wylie heads Friday to Lovejoy, and then hosts Royse City on Monday, March 4.
In one of their more recent outings, the Pirates dropped a 4-0 decision to Carrollton Newman Smith.
