Lenora Esco Williams Jennings Hyatt

Lenora was born on May 16, 1921, in Parkin, Ark., and passed away on Feb. 11, 2013, of natural causes at her home in Austin.

She was the oldest daughter of Leonard and Amy Williams of Parkin, Ark. and was preceded in death by her parents and two older brothers, Leslie and Eugene Williams.

Lenora attended Arkansas State Teachers College where she received her degree in Home Economics. She married Norman Jennings in 1944, and they had two daughters, Karen and Susan. They divorced in 1957 and Lenora lived in various places in the United States before settling in Wylie in 1958. She taught Home Economics for 21 years in the Wylie School District before retiring in 1979.  In 1963, she met and married D Elliott Hyatt and was with him until his death in 1997. Before moving to Austin in 2003, she belonged to the Wylie Garden Club and the Wylie Book Club. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Wylie and was the choir director of the Christian Church in Wylie.  Lenora loved singing and had a beautiful voice. In college she gave many concerts and performed with the Memphis Opera. During her lifetime she painted over 100 pictures, some of which still hang in the First Methodist Church and Christian Church, as well as the Wylie Public Library.  Her other accomplishments included making over 30 quilts for family members and loved ones. In 1969 she earned her Master of Science degree from Texas Woman’s University in Denton.

Lenora is survived by her daughter, Susan Fisher and her husband Thomas of Austin; daughter, Karen Harrison of The Colony; stepdaughter, Nancy Matkoff of Richardson; stepson, Dale Hyatt of Glen Burnie, Md; and her sister, Esther Williams Killough of Wynne, Ark. She had 10 grandchildren, Christopher and John Harrison, Jennifer Flores, Lisa Anderson, Amy Anderson, TJ and David Fisher, Stephen and Matthew Matkoff, and Darrell Hyatt.  In addition she had eight great-grandchildren, Taurean, Anonda, and Quanyin Flores, Tia and Jared Landry, Zan Anderson, Emma, Michael, Melissa, and Sarah Harrison, Monica Hobbs, Mason, Maddox, Maylee, Aubrey and Chase Matkoff.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 23 at the First United Methodist Church in Wylie.
