Bobby Joe Self, 66, lost his long battle with cancer on Aug. 16, 2012. He left this world peacefully with his family around him, in the comfort of his home.
Bobby grew up in Wylie and attended East Texas State University. He served in the United States Navy for eight years on the U.S.S. Keirsarge and the U.S.S. Ticonderoga during the Vietnam Conflict.
After serving his country, Bobby and his wife Verna returned to Wylie to raise their family. Friends and family describe Bobby as a man who was full of life and who loved to laugh.
Survivors include father, Sam Self of Wylie; wife, Verna Self of Wylie; one son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Kim Self of Houston; one daughter, Alecia Self of Wylie; three grandchildren, Alexis Self of Wylie and Kal and Mable Self of Houston.
He is preceded in death by his loving mother, Glenda Oleta Self.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at Allen Funeral Home in Wylie.
Bobby will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
