Burke Michael “Mike” Shea, Jr. a resident of the Dallas area since 1953, died on Friday, January 27, 2012.

Mike was born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 13, 1929, two weeks after the onset of the Great Depression.  He was the eldest of seven children born to Burke Michael Shea, Sr. and Ruby Allan Shea. 

After high school and graduation from St. Louis University, Mike was stationed in Dallas as an accountant in the United States Army.  He was one of the first 3500 CPAs certified in Texas.  He has been a member of St. Pius X, St. Rita and St. Anthony parishes during his seven decades in the Dallas area.  While working, he was heavily involved with his community through coaching soccer, volunteering with his church, and teaching at a local community college.  After retirement, Mike loved to travel and toured the world learning about and enjoying the cultures which he encountered.

Surviving Mike is  the mother of his children, Leah Shea; his children, Mike Shea III and his wife Debra of Nevada, Joan Shea Suggs and her husband Jack of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Joseph Shea and his wife Kelly of Irving, and Patricia Shea of Albuquerque, NM; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and siblings, Jane Kane, Irene James, Kathleen Kummer, Margaret Overbeck and William Shea.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wylie.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church.  Following the mass Mike will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery in St. Paul, Texas.

Funeral services are under the direction of Allen Funeral Home located in Wylie.
