Ed Herbert Smith Jr. died peacefully in his home in Richardson on Sun., Jan. 29, 2012. He will be remembered by everyone who knew him as a wonderful husband, strong father, loving grandfather and loyal friend. Ed was born in Nevada, Texas on Nov. 7, 1937 to Ed Herbert Smith Sr. and Beatrice Doyle Smith and was a proud Eagle Scout, graduate of Wylie High School and Southern Methodist University. After graduation, Ed began work for E-Systems in Garland and married Linda Beth Seigler in July of 1968. He was also a longtime member of the East Fork Masonic Lodge.

Known to many for his sharp wit and keen mind for business, Ed built a real estate business, as well as owned multiple retail locations under the Northcutt's brand. Managing these many properties was truly a family business, as wife Linda kept books, daughter Liz learned purchasing and sales while son Scott painted and repaired rental properties. All learned from Ed and enjoyed the laughs and good times together.

 After Linda Smith passed away in 2000, Ed married Martha Schober of Shreveport, La.  Together they enjoyed traveling to see family and friends and to their lake house in East Texas.

 Ed is survived by his wife, Martha; daughter, Elizabeth Smith Bohls and her husband Josh and grandchildren Conrad and Smith of Austin; son, Scott Smith and his wife Susan and grandchildren Grace and Stella of Austin; and stepdaughter, Mary Catharine Micka and her husband Kenny and grandchildren Austin and Addison of Culver City, Calif.

Services for Ed Herbert Smith, Jr. were held Sat., Feb. 4, at First Baptist Church of Wylie, 100 N. 1st Street, Wylie. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children:  www.community.tsrhc.org.
