Former Wylie Police Chief Roy E. Randolph died May 3, 2011, at his home in Wylie.
Services for “Chief Roy” were held May 5.
Mr. Randolph was born May 26, 1937, to Madison W. and Lilly Lenora Randolph. A graduate of Forest Avenue High School in Dallas, he married his wife, LaVelle, June 25, 1955, in Dallas.
Mr. Randolph served nine years in the U.S. Army. He was called up during the Berlin Crisis of 1961.
He was a member of Farmersville Primitive Baptist Church.
Mr. Randolph worked most of his life in law enforcement. He started as a rookie in the Irving Police Department and then served in the Hunt County Sheriff’s Department rising to the rank of chief deputy. In the early 1970s he was chief of the Red Oak Police Department. He left Red Oak to become the chief of police in Wylie. He served the Wylie department from the mid-1970s through the early 1980s.
His family said he loved to collect trains.
Suffering from heart problems the past few years, in August 2010, Mr. Randolph was the first patient to have the LVAD implant at Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano.
“He spent several months at the Heart Hospital in Plano, and the family would love to express their great gratitude to the doctors and especially the nurses who helped with his care,” said his daughter Catherine Hanson.
Survivors include his wife, LaVelle; daughter, Catherine Hanson and her husband Denney; seven grandchildren, Kyle Hanson, Amanda Hanson, Roger A. Randolph II, Roy D. Randolph, Maria Polland, Michael Randolph and Matthew Randolph; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Madison W. Randolph; and three sisters, June Williams, Jean Jeffers and Bettye Firor.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Roger Allen Randolph.
