Funeral services for George Millard Armstrong Jr., 81, of Wylie were held Jan. 15, 2011, at the First Baptist Church of Wylie.  Interment followed at Wylie Cemetery.

Dr. A.L. Draper officiated.

Mr. Armstrong died Jan. 11 in Wylie.

He was born July 24, 1929, in Wentz to the late George Millard Armstrong Sr. and Callie Oretha (Wasburn) Armstrong. He married Sarah W. Williford on Nov. 3, 1946, in Three Rivers. 

He was a member of First Baptist Church Wylie.

Mr. Armstrong had served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he was awarded a Korean Service Medal with three Service Stars, a UN Service Medal and a National Defense Service Medal. After leaving the Army, he went to work for Kraft Foods where he was a line mechanic. He worked for Kraft until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Sarah Armstrong of Wylie; son, Derek Armstrong of Wylie; daughter, Renee Darnell of Whitehouse; brothers, Sam Armstrong of Three Rivers and Philip Armstrong of George West; sisters, Mozelle (Mo) Ploch of Three Rivers, Dorris Dickinson of Pleasanton and Nell Blaha of Tilden; and 10 grandchildren.

Arrangements were under the direction of Allen Funeral Home of Wylie.
