Funeral services for Wylie Clyde “W.C.” Allen Jr., 79, of Wylie were held Jan. 16, 2011, at First Baptist Church Wylie. Interment followed at Wylie Cemetery.
Dr. A.L. Draper, Minister Alvis Nichols and Minister Eric Hogue officiated.
Mr. Allen died Jan. 12 in Dallas.
He was born Oct. 23, 1931, in Wylie to the late Wylie Clyde Allen Sr. and Chessie Mae (Collins) Allen. Along with his family, he was the owner and operator of Allen Funeral Home for 41 years.
He graduated from Wylie High School in 1949. After high school, he joined the United States Navy Reserves and began working for Kraft Foods where he worked for 21 years. He married Reta Ford Nov. 23, 1953, at the Wylie Church of Christ where he was a lifetime member.
He participated in many activities in Wylie including helping his parents run the Allen Grocery Store downtown.
He was a member of the Wylie Volunteer Fire Department and worked for the Wylie Police Department part-time. He also ran the ambulance service which was part of the funeral home’s business until the city of Wylie purchased the ambulance service.
Survivors include his wife, Reta Allen of Wylie; son, Danny Allen and his wife Liz of Wylie; daughter-in-law, Susan Allen of Wylie; grandchildren (whom he loved and was so proud of, his family said), Paul Allen of Wylie, Mindy Allen of Wylie, Marcus Allen of Parker and James Allen of Parker; sisters-in-law, Anita Lemons of Wylie and Dolores Williams of Wylie; nieces, Debbie Allen of Mersin, Turkey, Rhonda Brown of Wylie, Kay Shellnut of Edgewood, Brenda Burroughs of The Woodlands, Cheryl Deaton of Wylie and Tommie Lemons of Wylie. He is also survived by many other family members and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Manley Allen; and son, Larry Allen.
Arrangements were under the direction of Allen Funeral Home of Wylie.
