Community member, company, coach and kids team up to provide something extra at BJHS

Many school and city officials speak about partnerships – school/parent, community/school, business/community. But at Burnett Junior High in Wylie, there’s a multi-faceted partnership in which everybody seems to be coming out ahead.
Josh Minihan, a special-needs student at Burnett, was already working with Jesse Odle, a member of the eighth-grade football team. According to Dr. Justin Terry, Burnett principal, Jesse gives up an elective class in order to work with Josh academically. Terry said the boys have developed a special relationship, which has expanded to include other members of the team, for whom Josh works as a trainer. “Through their relationship, many of the other football players began to also take Josh in as one of their own,” Terry said.
Jesse said Josh is like a brother to him, and he enjoys helping him to be successful in school and do things he wants to do. “I feel that nobody is different from anybody else,” Jesse said. “Josh gets along with everybody, and I think anybody can be cool and different in their own way.”
