Nobody seemed to be mourning the end of summer Saturday morning, as more than 900 youngsters and their parents headed for First Baptist Church Wylie’s Event Center to collect backpacks, school supplies and school-appropriate clothing for the 2011-’12 school year.

Aug. 6 marked the seventh year for the Back-to-School Fair, sponsored by Wylie is H.O.P.E. and FBC. Started by Stacie Gooch, now president of the WISD Board of Trustees, the event began as an outreach program for economically challenged families. According to Candy Arrington, an organizer, it has “grown into a communitywide charitable event uniting all the churches, businesses, civic organizations, and people in the Wylie area.”

Arrington said an estimated 100 volunteers assisted in the fair.
