Leadership Wylie taking applications for ninth class about community
Date: Tuesday, June 28, 2011
Applications for Leadership Wylie Class IX are now being accepted. Leadership Wylie is a program offered by the Wylie Chamber of Commerce to any interested citizen who lives or works in Wylie or is a member of the Wylie Chamber.
The purpose of Leadership Wylie is to bring together emerging community and business leaders to encourage them to learn about, to question, to dream about, and to care for their community.
Participants are introduced to state, county, city officials, school board trustees, administrators, community leaders, local nonprofits and charities. Leadership skill topics are taught with active participation along with numerous field trips.
The class provides civic leadership training by – proving information about Wylie’s history, government, social needs, opportunities and existing processes for improvement; introducing participants to and establishing dialogue with each other and current leaders of Wylie; encouraging participants to participate in future activities which contribute to the growth and betterment of the Wylie community; and providing current and future employers with a source of knowledgeable and trained leaders who can and will have a positive impact on the business community.
Personal development training is also one of the class objectives. The program assists in the development of characteristics and skills by having individuals participate in various hands-on activities that will help identify personal values, visions, and life-long goals. The program provides important concepts crucial to an emerging leader, ranging from problem solving to time management. The classes run from September to May with sign-up through August.
Cost for the program is $800 for non-chamber members and $700 for chamber members. (This registration fee includes all weekly activities including a team-building retreat in September and a trip to Austin in February.)
For an application or more information,
contact the chamber office at firstname.lastname@example.org or 972-442-2804.
