Collin County Sheriff's Department officials say there was no drowning at Lake Lavon Tuesday afternoon.

Sheriff's office Spokesman Lt. John Norton said a call came in late Tuesday afternoon of two people in a canoe in trouble on the lake without life jackets.

Deputies made contact with fishermen near the spillway on Hwy. 78 who said they had seen a canoe but did not know what happened to it. The sheriff's office, Wylie Fire-Rescue and Wylie Police began a search, eventually closing Hwy. 78 and diverting traffic across the dam.

"We never did find any thing," Norton said. "We're not sure what happened but there was no distress."
